Can anyone decode the markings on diamond jigs?

I have always fished with bait.  Can anyone explain the markings on diamond jigs?

What is an A17 versus an A37?  Why do they always end in 7?

 

 


I wondered why the baseball kept getting bigger. Then it hit me.

Mostly the size.

A17 - 1-3/4 oz.
A27 - 2-3/4 oz.
A37 - 3-1/4 oz.
A47 - 4 oz.
A67- 5 oz.
A87 - 6 oz.
A88 - 8 oz.

why does the lasst one end in 8 and not 7?

very odd numbering system.
