First "real" trip today....success!

Now that my recent voltage regulator replacement went well, and I was confident the installation of my new pumps was nice and sound, I fueled 'er up today and took my girlfriend out to one of the local islands. "Kellys Island" is about 15mi or so away from Sandusky, and has a lot of great places to eat, relax, party, and shop. Grabbed a jumbo perch sammich for lunch, walked around for a bit, and had a couple beers while watching the boats...and the scenery...come and go.

Waves were 2ft or less (mainly a lot of boat & ferry chop), with an air temp of around 80; beautiful sunny day. Engines ran great; this thing really moves...with 100-120+/- gal of fuel and the two of us, minimal gear, we were cruising very comfortably at 40mph gps'd at 3800-4100rpm and no trim, effortlessly climbing on plane. My 20' Trophy with a single 175 did well, but it took a lot of work to get it to push 45+ on a good day. I have to play with the motor trim a bit; I could trim my 175 up quite a bit before it would cavitate- these 200's don't seem to need much before I can hear 'em piercing air.

There was a lot of nice boats in the area where we docked today; as there usually is, but the Robalo definitely stood out, I must say. It's classic look got at least a couple compliments!

Howdy Everyone,

Anyone with the same vintage of 230, or similar CC figured out how to fish a wire up to the bow for the nav lights? The previous owner of my 230 rewired most of the boat, but said he couldn't figure out how to get new wiring up to the bow, so he added a set of nav lights on either side of the electronics box instead. I actually prefer them on the TTop, but unfortunately my T-bag blocks them if you're looking directly at the bow. I took the T-Bag down, but I surely miss the extra storage... The combination red/green light is still mounted up on the bow, and I wouldn't mind rewiring and using it, if I can figure out how to get a wire up there. Any suggestions?

Well bad knee and all I finally made some decent progress on the fuel tank repair. I got the center console off. It was actually a lot easier than I planed. The wiring in it was horrible but it shouldn't be bad to neaten it up with the console in the garage. I am working with very limited space so I can only do 1 or 2 things at a time. I plan to refiberglass all the old holes and some bad spots on the console too. I want to trade out my captains chairs for a leaning post while everything is out too but that's a ways from now. I'm done for the day early though for 2 reasons, 1 my knee was hurting and 2nd and more importantly I am taking my daughter to a daddy daughter dance tonight and I gotta get ready. I'll start up again tomorrow and post more pics then.

TRYING to adopt a dog...

Feel free to provide your opinions on this one guys! We are trying to go thru a particular dog adoption agency that FOR NOW I won't name because we may just play their game since they have a selection of the type of dog we are looking for. We had our first phone interview tonight....... Quite the interesting experience! It doesn't look like we are going to be allowed to adopt a dog anytime soon. First off, I was basically told, in a VERY condescending way that I am an unfit dog owner because the 12 lb bichion I had for 15 years slept in our approx 100 square foot laundry room instead of "BEING ALLOWED TO BE PART OF MY FAMILY" yes, if your dog sleeps in the same room every night with the damn door open and that room is not your bedroom, YOU are unfit for dog ownership!! The woman went on to ask where we would like our new dog to sleep, we answered that would either be in our living room or our bedroom, that answer went over like a fart in church and the handler "advised" us to discuss that together and decide if the living room is really "giving the dog the rights it deserves as part of the family" I won't even go into the whole unfenced yard issue....actually yes I will! We live on over an acre of land that abutts a preserve and is three miles from the nearest main road. Their response was "we require OUR (whose?) dogs to be on a leash 100% of the time of you have kids and an unfenced yard." Her logic was that "WHEN your 7 year old falls and splits her lip you are going to stop paying attention to the dog and the dog is going to sense the stress and take off and will get to the highway before you can catch her because dogs run faster than humans." I understand there's a need to adopt dogs out to responsible families that will take good of their new family member. What I do NOT understand is the aire of condescension that comes across in the interview. I also do not understand how these people act like dogs don't belong in households with children, yet, in many of the descriptions write about how great a particular dog is with kids! I could see having big concerns with having a medium to large dog in a household that has an infant, I get that. Our kids are six and seven, hardly incapable of playing with a damn dog! This whole thing makes me sick, you try to do what you're told is the "right" thing by adopting a dog and THIS is the thanks you get! I'm glad I paid the $15 for the right to have a phone conversation with these morons. Finding a good breeder and a certified pup is looking smarter and smarter, at least then we can meet the dog before commuting to having it shipped halfway across the country. Next step is them calling the vets we used for our last dogs to make sure we took good care of them.... Then its home visit time..... Can't wait to invite an unpaid volunteer that has to pass only a mirror test to verify they're alive into our home so that they can decide if this is and acceptable household. Psyched, can't wait, yay.
Furthermore, isn't there a problem with overpopulation when it comes to cats and dogs? Isn't the purpose of these adoption agencies to get you to want to adopt instead of paying some evil dog enthusiast breeder a bunch of money for a dog with guaranteed hips, etc? Like I said, $1000 or whatever is looking better and better to me!

Eventual Restoration

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum and fairly new to boating in general so please bear with my lack of knowledge. My wife and I bought our first house a few months back and the seller threw in an old Robalo center console boat that I will be slooooowwwlly restoring over the next couple years. The tires on the trailer are dry-rotted and I think the wheels themselves are probably bad so my guess is he just didn't want to mess with dragging it out of the yard...

Million dollar question:

- Is it possible for anyone to identify the boat just by looking at it? Haven't received the title yet and there's no hull id number that I can find so I have no idea just how old it is. Apparently hull id numbers weren't required until after '72 but I can't believe the boat is that old. Tried searching the registration number on the side that was last renewed in '98 but came up with nothing.

Any help will be much appreciated. This thread may sit dormant for a long time but when the restoration starts I will be back.

1987 2320 Transom Repair

Hi everyone, I was on the old site as R2020 or AllTideUp, I can't remember. Anyhow, I have had an 88 R2020 for about 6 years now that I love and picked up an 87 2320 last spring for next to nothing that needs a transom. The previous owner cut the whole thing out and stopped working on it because he bought another boat. I came in and scooped her up for $600 on the trailer as she sits. The boat is in great shape aside from the transom, so that's really the only thing I need to do aside from working some cosmetic magic. I think once she's done, this boat will be one of the nicer ones around!

I have the project posted on another, similar site dedicated to another brand of boat and while I've gotten some help and hopefully will continue to, I want the project documented here for all the other Robalo gurus to chime in on. What I'll do is copy/paste my posts from there (there's only a few).

In reading the other site, I came across a nearly identical project where the owner used Nida Bond pourable transom with great info about removing both skins, prepping them and reinstalling them to ensure a good bond with the pourable product. Since the prior owner already removed both skins, and I don't feel comfortable cutting the liner to tab a new wood transom into the hullsides, I think duplicating that method will yeild the best results for me.

Keep in mind, the first post I'll put up was from just before I bought her......

Hopefully some of you guys will chime in for me, I've done some glass work before but this will be my biggest project yet. AND if anyone happens to be local to CT and wants to help, pizza and beer is on me!!!!!

No electricity to gauges or engine

Hi All -

Getting the '05 R190 ready for another season. I am a bit puzzled by an electrical problem. I get current to the radios and Nav lights but the gauges don't come to life and the engine does not crank nor can I raise or lower it. Tested the battery switch and related fuse, checked the engine fuses and all looked good. I searched the site but couldn't find a similar issue posted.
Any thoughts? will a weak battery result in no power to the gauges and engine?

I want to shed weight thats a priority.I was thinking 1.5 inch coosa.I was also wondering the best approach to get the wood out,cut the inside skin since the stringers will have to be extended anyway?I have a lot more questions but Im beat.
With only the 2 tie down rings in the transom, what sort of 'rig' does everyone use to pull a tube, skier, etc? My 20' Trophy had a single o/b, but the rings were too close to the waterline to use one of those clip on cable things- it would drag in the water, so I just used a large piece of dock line between the stern cleats.
Noisy deck on two different Robalo R240’s

I have been looking at two used 2006 Robalo R240’s. They both have from 300 to 400 hours on the engines and are at the same boat dealer. I love this boats layout and the one I’m interested in is very clean. However, I’m concerned that when I walk on their decks I hear a slight cracking or creaking noise. I don’t see any real flex in the boat. I don’t know if this is a defect or is this normal since both boats sound the same? Are there any R240 owners out there that can tell me if this is normal or should I not even think about buying one of these boats?

Classic Mako, Robalo, any other classic boat funament

Guys, the Northeast members of classicmako.com are planning a funament for August 11-12. I'm a pretty active member of the site and will be attending and helping everything come together if need be. Anyhow, I'd love to not be the only Robalo there and they would love to have more than one brand represented.
This is going to be a 2 day event held at Sandy Point in Stonington, CT. It's a sand spit just off the shore where a lot of people gather every weekend to hang out - GREAT place! Day 1 is going to be a beach/cookout/hangout day and day 2 will be the fishing tourney.
My goal for this event would be to make it a Mako / Robalo shootout but more Robalo owners would have to be on board!

Here's the thread on classicmako.com :

classic mako funament
Great bunch of guys over there that are as passionate about their classics as we are of ours! If there's another spot on this site I should add this, let me know! Looking forward to getting some Robalos out there this summer!

2000/2001 2640

Hey everyone,

Was wondering if anyone out there has a 2640, I just purchased her & can't seem to get the freshwater to work, I'm guessing a switch need to be flicked then the tap or nozzle to be turned on, then when finished turn the pump off, also I seem to have x2 Macerator pumps down the stern, does anyone know why there would be x2? I thought if there was x1 holding tank there would be x1 Macerator pump.

Cheers,
