Hey All!

Just picked up a Robalo and figured I'd get in on the Robalo Community!

I've got a 1988 R1800 with a '94 Suzuki DT140 EFI on her. In pretty good shape, but I'm a little neurotic, so I'll probably be painting her this fall after I get a summers worth of use out here on the coast.

I own a CNC woodshop so I'll probably be doing some custom wood b/c the teak on her is a little beat up, so stay tuned for that! Does anyone name their Robalo's? We just had our first daughter and her name is Wendy Jane, too tacky to name 'er that? Looking forward to chatting with you all!

Welcome and thanks for taking a stroll down our cyber docks. Do to the age of the boats pics are always good as over the years they look different with all the customizing over the years than they did when they left our factory LoL plus we all love boat porn. Another thing you need to be aware of is you are now hooked on ROBALO's. The worst part is there is no 7 step program to help you your just addicted. Any questions just task as we all will be there to help. As far as the name it is what it means to you . My boat is the

Dottie Q named after my MoM as the boat didn't leave without her very many times and she never swam a lick that's how confident

She was about the boat. So name it what you like but keep in the back of your mine when people hail you on the VHF they will be calling the boats name. So check out the general section as it will have cutaways .video and articles .

Welcome!

Nice looking boat! 1988...darn good year for Robalos (since mine is an '88, too). How bad is the teak? In a lot of instances, a little sanding is all that is needed to get the dings out and back looking good. If you decide to make some new parts, we will need some pictures of the machine in operation!

As far as redoing your teak ( or any other wood and fiberglass painting ) check out Signature Paint ! Honey Teak system I have been using his products for over 12 years . There is links as well as other owners restoration jobs that they used it, basically a 3 part epoxy paint . Look at my gallery and the pic of my boat as I have a few custom parts as well as my Console drawers is the Honey teak. I put on 3 coats of Honey Teak and 4 coats of the clear and it last for years and it only takes ONE DAY to apply one coat 20 min later next coat. I use to sand it all and then varnish it 13 days lightly sanding between coats and unlike varnish you can spot treat a damaged area in a few hours ( 10 min work rest dry times ). Just my $.02 worth.

Great to see everyone here is so active in the community!

I got some time this weekend to start on the teak, I block sanded the gunnels and then disassembled the live well cover and rear seats and ran them through the planer... Man, I forgot how much I love teak, there's always beauty just under the surface. For now, I've just oiled the teak, I want to see how it holds up to the elements. I also set the name in stone(well wood), here's the refurbed live well cover...

Next time I cut something for the boat I'll be sure to show you some video of it running... Here's a video of it cutting a sign for my shop.

That livewell cover came out fantastic! Teak is amazing how it can hold up and still have a 'regal' look with a little oil. After seeing this, I am beginning regret having given away some teak when I worked on my boat 6 years ago...I see too many possibilities here!

Hey Guys!

I was wondering what everyone uses to get stains out of their gelcoat... The previous owner thought it was a good idea to stain the teak (never stain teak) and lets just say they weren't very neat with their staining. I have a bottle of on & off gel but I just wanted to see if anyone else had a good idea or cautioned against using acid on the gel coat. Thanks all!

Also, what does everyone recommend for a prop size and pitch with the suzuki dt140 EFI that I've got on here? Just wondering if anyone has any opinions.

On off won't hurt the gelcoat but don't let it touch ANY ALUMINUM It will eat it up due to the muratic acid in it. I would tape around the teak and I would test it on some caulik also before using it as some shrinks when it comes in contact with the On / OFF . Also you can try some compound polish on stains ( I use MeGuiers ultimate compound as well as all there other products with fantastic resultes ) if using the ON /OFF with the trailer under it get a sponge out with a lot of soap to wash the trailer but do not rince and if a lot drips down hit it with the hose too.
