  1. Hello, I'm new to the site but looking forward to getting my 1978 R180 back into shape. I've owned her since about '86 and she's in need of a makeover. The first order of business was the fuel tank, I've got it very clean by using "Purple Cleaning Stuff", Dawn, hot water and a pressure washer. The problem I've got now is that when I was flushing the tank with fresh water from the filler I started getting large (1sq in) and smaller pieces of rubber from the filler hose. Is there only a short hose behind the reveal teak board at the filler in the side gunnel or does the rubber hose run the entire length under the deck to the tank? I'm not sure I'm ready to pull the deck from over the fuel tank coffin. I tried that once before without success... and I really wanted to get one more summer out of her before major work this winter. Thanks for any info. r2
  2. Hi, I am getting a fair bit of fuel (1 litre per hour) leaking into the forward bilge of my R235. I haven't completely inspected all the hoses yet but am preparing myself for the worst. Has anyone ever had to remove a fuel tank? The only access in the R235 is through two 150mm inspection ports. The total tank length is about 1600mm with the front section under the fish boxes and the rear section all the way under the live bait well. Is there something obvious that I am missing or do I need to remove the live bait well and iceboxes to get access to it? I had a fellow over today who suggested removing a smaller section of the floor (to the width of the tank and 550mm long or so), cutting out the tank bit by bit, and then sliding in three separate smaller tanks. I live in a remote area of Australia and good advice is hard to come by. Would greatly appreciate any advice. Cheers, John
  3. I was having trouble removing my leaning post seat , in order to re-upholster the cushion. I tried to research the method of removal, and came up empty. This past weekend, I went to the boat and figured it out! Underneath the seat, there is a plastic weather strip that goes around the entire seating console. You must remove this strip, and it will expose screws that hold the seat to the livewell console. After you remove those screws, the entire seating section lifts up and allows you to gain access to the seating screws. It was all very easy! By the way, it also allows you to access the fuel tank pick up tube if needed. Just thought I would pass it along, in case anyone else was trying to figure it out!!!! Brian

  5. First time on this thread. I just bought a 1977 230 Robalo center console. I got a great deal on the boat, trailer and motor. The fiberglass all around looks awesome and the transom and floor seem solid. I had about 8 gallons of water I siphoned out of the fuel tank which I think originated from the sending unit which had to screws stripped with standing water over the top of it and water still coming from the foam. After I replace the sending unit I plan on doing a pressure test as I've read on here, but I'm not really sure how that's done? It looks as if the tank was replaced before, since it has a metal plate over the area where the chairs were with a new bench? I've done alot of looking on this site and have yet to find any pictures of any boats my size and period with the tanks and coffins open? Is this boat self bailing? Is there a drainage system below the deck? Thanks in advance for any advice you may have for me. Cheers, Eric
  6. Hi. I'm looking for a fuel tank for a 1977 230 center console robalo
  7. I have owned my 1984 2520 for 22 years. Currently on my second set of motors. While running to the Bahamas a couple of weeks ago, at about 25 miles into the trip, my starboard engine slowly slowed down and had to be pulled to idle. My racor filter had a very small amount of water, but nothing that alarmed me. The primer ball was flat. After changing the filter a few times, I finally made it the 65 miles. I changed both fuel lines from the tank to the filters. Things seemed better for a couple of days, until I started home and after about 20 miles, the same problem came back. I want to know the best way to check the screens on the fuel tank pickups. I have drained the tank and the inside looks new. Pick up tubes enter the tank and turn aft and disappear past a baffle. This can be seen by removing the fuel sender. If I were to install an inspection port in the fuel tank cover and subsequent inspection port in the tank, does anybody know the best location? For example, how far from the back of the fuel tank cover and should it be in the center?
  8. Sooo.... in changing the sender unit on my fuel tank, While in place, I unscrewed the one nut that holds the top portion to the lower portion that goes in the tank. Needless to say, the lower portion separated and is now somewhere in the fuel tank. Floating or sitting on the bottom? What is the hazard if it stays in the tank? I bought a retrieval tool from hardware store, 18 inch springy type of tool with retractable claw, Would like to be "fishing" for something else....
  9. what is the size/capacity of the fuel tank on a 1999 2120 center console?
