  1. Well at least some is still in the progress. I can imagine how it seems like a eternity at this point. Can’t wait to see the paint job. The total boat paint I used is just ok. I have to go touch up 1/2 dozen spots that came from docks during the summer but that’s to be expected when teaching son how to tying up in a slip .I got a letter from the management in the complex that electricity & water will be cut off in our compound. That sucks but I’ll just bring it to the house when I need to do things. ALL the way to Texas for electronics package, hmm . Glad to hear the hardtop came out so good. Thanks for the update.
  2. Thanks for taking a stroll down down our cyber docks. Also make sure you get tandem wheel trailer with more capacity . They will try to sell you one that is just adequate but the weights in the brochures we put were on the light side and in reality when the boat is rigged out it will be much higher..The amount of time one spends towing the boat you want the trip to be less stressful. Good luck on finding a new memory maker.
  3. You could also run the fuel through through your water separator before pumping it into the 5 gal jugs.. Once you pump the last 5 gallons out put 5 back in and run through your separator until you don’t see any more waterinthe separator. My filter has a bleed valve on bottom of clear plastic bottom and I drain it after each 5 gallons into a clear jar (an empty Mayo jar works great )once you have no water in filter you are done. If you have a transfer station call them and ask if they have a hazmat goods area you can bring it to. The one I went to in Fl. Allows you 10 gallons a day,just go buy and pour it in there container and you can take a friend and they get 10 gallons too. Just some food for thought.
  4. So happy for you! I took a little over a year to do the R190 and didn’t cut into the floor except the stern and changed it to be like my 1969 R190. Just towed the travel trailer down to Biaha Honda on Monday . It was like a normal fiasco as I trailered the boat down to Nicks in Port St. Lucie with the Durango (190k on it) on Friday and swapped it out for a one owner 2005 GMC Yukon Denali with only 120k that looks well taken care of. All went well on return home ,wife was a lil Leary about the idea of taking a new to us suv . We started off at 8:00 Monday and had No AIR CONDITIONING. It was a long hot trip to PSL and Nick met us at his shop I was ready to hitch up the Durango but he was able to add Freon. I tried but my tool didn’t work before we left but with 2 cans freon and a hour later we were off again. Got here around 6:00 . Looks like my son was able to get into the Key West dialysis clinic so now he can drive the 25 miles when he goes. This vacation is one of many birthdays ,Nicks ,Jackie ,granddaughter Noelle. We have a Charter on Sunday that Nick does every year and am looking forward to it as it will help me find the fish for the following week.I know the feeling of the project coming to a end. This trip will be the real test of the boat and hopefully all my work will be worth it. Only thing I wish I had time to so was to put self adjusting Bennett trim tabs to help the hole shot but might be different with a loaded boat for fishing. Will keep you posted .
  5. A regular hand saw will work. LiL better if you sharpen the tip like a knife so you can rock it back and Ruth as you push it into the foam.. just make it into squares the size of the blade then I use a garden hoe ( sharpened ) after I get the first square out. It just takes time. Most try to chip it out ( been there done t got the T-Shirt) and it makes a mess and a lot of vacuuming..
  6. Wow sounds wonderful , I can imagine how excited you are. I can’t wait to see it . How long does it take to get to Homestead from where the boat is? My son is still waiting to hear back from the kidney coordinator about getting him in somewhere. As of now I’ll have to drive him a 100 miles each way ( were in Biaha Honda) and then I have 5 hours to kill before I pick him up. Still trying to get him in the Key west facility only 30 min away ). Ive been working away getting the boat ready to take down to Nicks ( he’s trailering the boat down for us and swap out vehicles ) My restoration wasn’t al elaborate as yours and seems like it’s taken me forever but she’s almost ready. Bought another prop but she still doesn’t come out of the hole as fast as I like but will see soon how she does fully loaded. i cant wait until you get the hull painted as I’m sure I’m going to repaint the hull sides next winter the total boat paint just doesn’t seem as durable as it should be. Oh well I have to get off the cyber docks here and organize all the fishing tackle were are going to take..

  8. The pipe work looks SICK ? So fresh ,beefy and sexy in a way. I made a forward shade cover from the console to the bow using bow rail mounted rod holders for our trip to the Keys at the end of the month. Its not a thing of beauty but I need the shade for my son who’s on Dialysis and with his meds he can’t be in the sun. However food for thought make some provisions for a couple 0* rod holders so you can stick polls in to hold the front canvas. I made a stern mount one years ago on a 38” I captained and it slipped into the hard top channel and 2 rods at the back. It was great always had it up at the dock and some when fishing offshore. SCUPPERS. Errrrr I put the 1” hole ping pong ones back in the deck where they were before the restoration thinking that’s done. Well the extra weight of the 4 stroke and my weight they were under water most the time and sucked. So I tool them out plugged the holes and troughs up and put 2” ping pong ball ones at floor level which raised them 1 1/2 “ higher so I will water test them when my new prop comes in this week. Live well will be a 35 gal ( or my 10 gal inshore ) deck mount .I have a custom transom mounted high speed pickup with 1100gph rule pump. I know the weight isn’t going to help bu it is the only way these older boats can do it. The biggest thing about floor model live wells must be rinsed of all soap and other things we clean the boats with so use only biodegradable boat soap and flush out tank good on your way to get bait. I can’t wait to see how the paint comes out!
  9. MACERATOR PUMPS have ALWAYS been a problematic once when we first put them in our boats.we sent out 4-5 to every boat we built that had one. They are not worth the hassles. Personally I would put screens over the drains and just pick up the mess verses having to keep replacing them. Just my 2 cents worth.

I don’t know how much room you have in the bilge but you could plum all the floor boxs to go directly into a collection box and use a through hull bilge pump with a screen on it ( like bass boats have for there live wells) to pump overboard . Even put a automatic switch and a screw-in inspection plate on top to allow access to remove any large pieces of debris / scales that make there way out of floor boxs. We used in line macerator pump and totally didn’t work I sent out more replacement pumps on warranty than boats with them. just some food for thought.?
  11. I agree on the scuppers . We built a R2520 with a full tower and Armstrong bracket for the Miami show and sold it to a captain who was going to charter out of Mexico. He loved the bracket but feared what would happen if he took a Big Wave over the bow with only 2 2’ scuppers. I told him to buy a pair of large rectangular ones and put them 4-6” above the stock ones just for water relief if it were to happen. He wrote me back and said they did work ,they got in a bad storm and took 3 big waves over the bow and the water went out the back quickly and the stock took over once water was below the rectangular ones. Just some food for thought.
  12. Definitely sitting right. The extra flotation in bracket really help. Can't wait to see hardtop on. Is there going to be a Sight tower on top ( D frame )? Im really curious in how the paint is going to come out, the admiral even said if it is as good as the pic looked nows the time to change. Told her I will wait because too close to us heading down to the Keys in late June for 2 weeks with the camper. My oldest will be bringing the boat down for us and coming back down to bring it back to his house for me . He will be there for 5 days and has a charter while we’re there . ( He does it every year ) and my younger son and my granddaughters will be there for a week ( he has his Dialysis days already booked in Key West ) so it will be fun for everyone I hope. Anyway I look forward to seeing your post .

  14. o Hacks On removing the gunnel.The rubber is easy to deal with. When removing it mark the middle of rope and rubber with blue masking tape to help in the reinstall. I’d just re-attached it after it has been in the sun all day to make easy to pull. You can use masking tape to make a strait line above the rubber placement along the gunnel. While it is off you can caulk or use filler to fill in all the holes along the gunnel to make it waterproof. I would also ( with help of a fishing buddy) drill new mounting holes and then shoot the screw in aligning it up to the blue tape. On replacing the rope there are a couple tricks. Use a rag around a dowel and apply Vaseline along the rubber edges . You can stretch the rope out starting starting with putting the center in first then using a rubber mallet covered with a couple socks (won’t leave black marks on the rope you just bleached and used fabric softener overnight) You need someone pulling on it while you are pounding in. I make a common whipping knot on both ends. This way I can pull it until the end. I Have a 1” S/S piece bow rail with a 90*cut on the end that goes in between the rubber and you pull it around the boat while someone feeds it into the pipe. ( a lil more Vaseline will help) lil awkward at first but it gets easier as you go along. I have had to tie the whipping knot end to a reattach strap to pull the rope if needed ( that’s why I tie that knot after it’s inside the pipe or with mallet method. JUST SOME FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
  15. I used a lot of them in my restoration but still put on shrink tubing over them as a lot of them really melted. I used different methods to shrink them and a lighter worked better than a heat gun. The lighter I was more able to direct the heat versus the gun doing too large of a area. I found they definitely make a better wire to wire connection but the jacket melts too much so that’s why I use the extra shrink tubing even if it’s only for self satisfaction.lol just my 2 cents worth.
  16. Food for thought , Back then the R2320 and the R2520 were called R236 and R256 . They have always been the same hulls and most changes over the years were the console, liner and fuel capacity.
  17. Welcome to the forum . As old as your boat is sometimes it’s hard to understand but previous owners have made a lot of modifications over the years since when we built it . Back then ROBALOS were built different from most other production boats. However I’ve seen this before and there were new transducers out there and they were through hulls but with the totally foam filled and with the tubs installed they were able to instal them . And how do I know I had one in mine but it has been removed for 45 years now. Crawl under there and see if they are still there or have they been removed. If they haven’t keep checking to see if there leaking if they are you might need to remove them and patch the holes. If you haven’t done fiberglass repairs you might want to have someone who knows how as if it’s not done right id could do a lot of damage. Not trying to scare you but it is in a very vulnerable area. So check it out and get back . As for the other area who knows could have been used to hide things like lobster lol
  18. Pipewelders were the best when I was there and I used them for years. Once you said that I knew there wouldn’t be anything left to chance.That paint I so nice I actually thought about repainting but I think the Admiral would make me walk the plank. LoL I can't wait to see the blue. When I had to do static test on the boats we had a box I hung on the transom and used led weights to simulate the outboard weight . I then used coolers filled with water to simulate the weight of fuel batteries and other items that were standard in the boat. It might not be high tec but it allows anyone to do it as you just need to measure the water out in gallons and calculate the weight where you need it. Food for thought.
  19. Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together.😎. I don’t know what your cross members have in the mid section but if your going to have outriggers you should have aluminum bases welded in for them as well as for radar and antenna mounts.just food for thought. Touch up of the paint was one thing I was looking for when I was doing a search on the paints out there. The Total Boat paint was able to be touched up ( in the process of it right now as I had some rubbing of fenders remove a couple places and it’s blending well. However I know know not to use a pressure washer on paint that’s not a few months into curing 😂
  20. Well if my paint starts to not hold up I’d sand her and repaint with Alexseal as all the hard work is done lol. That’s only a weeks job with drying times . I’m going to wait till next year to start the Dottie Q as I went and checked out a PIONEER 220 w/ Yamaha 150 for Nick and i bought it ( his $) igot a hell of a good deal on it. So he will be good for a while.

  22. Thanks for the info . I’m curious how it comes out as I still have the cap and vertical interior areas. I used TOTAL BOAT epoxy on the hull and so far it’s ok but haven’t had it out a lot but will see.
  23. Welcome and thanks for stopping by. Judd was one of my PoPs closest friends. When I was a kid he took us to a lot of places mostly Green Turtle on his DC3 . Spent most of my summer there when I was 15 . He made 5 special boats and we fished tons of tournaments on them. There’s a few videos that ReelPlumber posted with the 5 were at my island house. Unfortunately all have passed away but all of PoPs friends were mine and wouldn’t trade that for nothing. I left ROBALO in 1992 when they moved to Tennessee. Carlos Maranda was there at the beginning and was our plant manager in late 80’s . Ahhh the memories.
  24. The place is amazing, I’ve been going there for years. When I was at ROBALO I sold him a tractor trailer of boat parts when we moved out of one plant to the other. You need to know your prices on the things your going to look at. Look it up on your phone and they will match the prices usually and other things are a steal or hard to find. I know he sells fasteners by the lb so I go through the barrels and pick out mostly larger screws smaller ones are just as cheep at the big box stores.they have a large assortment of T-Tops and such as well as a lot of fiberglass parts too.
